“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness” (1 Tim 2:1-2, NIV).
When First Lady, Melania Trump, opened the President’s rally in Melbourne, Florida on February 18th, the first words of the rally were these:
Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Opening a political rally with the Lord’s Prayer was unprecedented! I don’t think it had ever been done before, but Melania’s prayer was greeted with thunderous applause and joy. The people at the rally clung to her every word, especially as they listened to her beautifully accented pronunciation of the words that are so familiar to us all.
It was as if they were hearing it for the first time.
News of that single Our Father went viral. The people who could not attend the rally loved it and made it clear by their dissemination of the prayer that they want more of it at political rallies and more prayer in general in every aspect of American life.
The First Lady’s bold opening of the rally with prayer proves a few very significant points about the “One Our Father” prayer campaign:
- The Lord’s Prayer is primordial a spiritual force.
- The Lord’s Prayer has the power to unite us when it is given its proper place in our public and private lives.
- The Lord’s Prayer can protect, guide, and strengthen us for the reform of this great country of ours.
The First Lady prayed just One Our Father, but it was heard by millions; it was prayed by millions; it was endorsed and disseminated by millions.
Imagine the impact of future millions of people praying that prayer every single day for the intentions of President Trump and the America people who seek to reform our government and society from the forces of lawlessness and corruption that threaten it.
We are in some serious trouble in America right now. It is not my intention to dwell on the negative, which anyone who pays attention to the news can’t help but see. It is my intention to draw millions of people into the Prayer that Our Lord taught us in order to bring the spiritual power of Christ to the problems of America.
But let’s not kid ourselves that this will be an easy task.
Let’s just follow Melania’s lead: let’s pray the Lord’s Prayer every day for her husband’s protection and for the good of our nation.
Millions of American Christians united in the one great prayer of our faith can only bring the power of God’s grace and favor back into our national life.
Please pass this prayer request on to as many other people as you can and let’s keep Melania’s inspiration radiating across this great land!
